Hiking in the Berchtesgaden National Park offers a variety of possibilities: some hikers prefer to walk comfortably at their own pace down in the valleys while others prefer the challenge of striving for the highest peaks. Therefore, our hiking suggestions are divided into five categories in order for everyone to choose what is right for them. It is generally known that while hiking or skiing in alpine areas, one should follow the advice of the Bergwacht (mountain rescue service) or the mountain hut staff. Sturdy hiking shoes, warm clothing and nourishment as well as a detailed map for route planning is imperative! We have put together a few additional tips under the heading “How to Behave in the Mountains”, for your own safety while in the National Park.

Easy hikes on well groomed trails with slight inclines. Duration: approx. 1 – 2 hours Refreshment possibilities available

Short, but challenging

Hikes with alternating steep inclines, for sure-footed hikers in good condition Duration: approx. 2 – 3 hours Refreshment possibilities at the trail heads

Lengthy but well worth the effort

Moderately steep trails through the valleys of the National Park. Necessary to have along would be - above all - stamina as well as sturdy hiking shoes, water and snacks. Duration: approx. 6 – 8 hours (round trip)

Up into the heights

Challenging hikes with very steep inclines, for those who have the whole day. Being sure-footed and in good condition is imperative, as well as having appropriate hiking boots, water and snacks!
